Written notification of withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty
On 16 March 2026, Iceland deposited with the Energy Charter Secretariat, in its capacity as the Depositary of the Energy Charter Treaty on an interim basis, a written notification of its decision to withdraw from the Energy Charter Treaty.
Pursuant to Article 47(2) of the Energy Charter Treaty, any such withdrawal shall take effect upon the expiry of one year after the date of receipt of the notification by the Depositary.
Accordingly, the withdrawal of Iceland from the Energy Charter Treaty shall take effect 17 March 2027.
