Pakistan and Indonesia strengthen trade ties through new agreement
Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to deepen their economic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Indonesia–Pakistan Joint Trade Committee, aiming to enhance dialogue and facilitate bilateral cooperation.
The MoU, signed during high-level talks between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Indonesian Vice Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esty Widya Putri, reflects both countries’ commitment to jointly address opportunities and challenges in trade.
Commerce Minister Khan highlighted Indonesia’s strategic importance within ASEAN and emphasized Pakistan’s potential as a reliable source for minerals, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and agri-food commodities to meet growing Indonesian market demand.
Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Indonesia reached $4.5 billion, largely comprising palm oil imports, while both sides discussed corrective measures to achieve a more balanced trade structure.
Pakistan plans to organize a Single-Country Exhibition and Business Forum in Jakarta, inviting ASEAN member states to showcase Pakistani products, boost regional business linkages, and attract investment to strengthen economic collaboration.
Both countries also agreed to expand the existing Preferential Trade Agreement and work toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, aiming to unlock greater trade and investment opportunities while facilitating easier market access for key exports.
