Trump clears Gabon’s return to AGOA to counter Beijing
After a three-year suspension following a military coup, Libreville regains duty-free access to US markets as the superpower rivalry intensifies.
Gabon has regained its place within the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Nearly three years after being excluded following the coup that overthrew Ali Bongo, the country is breaking back into the US trade programme aimed at sub-Saharan Africa. The return was finalised on 19 May through an executive order signed by the US president, Donald Trump.
