Malaysia gives equal emphasis to two trade pacts – Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) said International Trade and Industry Minister, with RCEP provide a future boost for the four Asean countries in the TPP negotiations.
Deputy Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn has suggested that Thailand should eventually join the US-led Trans-Pacific Partnership, which will control about 40 per cent of global gross domestic product and one-third of world trade if approved.
But until the TPP is finalised, Thailand should focus on the Asean-led Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), she said.
Beijing blocked a preliminary agreement on goods market liberalisation at the last Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership negotiations round.
