The Daiichi Sankyo-Ranbaxy Laboratories deal has come as a shot in the arm for India's Comprehensive Economic Co-operation Agreement (CECA) negotiations with Japan. A leading UN Committee has recommended that India review all aspects of its trade negotiations - particularly those with EU and EFTA - to ensure that they do not result in a situation which undermines the rights of people within the country, particularly the most disadvantaged and vulnerable. Though India's Union Government has been pushing for an FTA with many countries on a bilateral basis, and also with regional blocks like ASEAN and the EU, there have been no major breakthroughs.
