US trade officials on Monday said they would give Guatemala more time to implement a labor rights enforcement plan under CAFTA.
As Guatemala has now approved its participation in the free trade agreement between Mexico and the other Central American countries – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua – the agreement entered into effect on September 1, 2013.
The Central American nation of Guatemala has not exported sugar to Peru since June of last year due to an increase of tariffs implemented by the Andean country over the past year, El Comercio reported.
